Eng. (1983) from Hunan University (China), M. Eng. (1986) from the Chinese Academy of Science, and Ph.D. (1991) from McGill University (Canada), all in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Zou joined FPInnovations (formerly Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada - Paprican) in 1991. He has worked in a number of different research areas including paper permanence/paper performance, paper coating/printing, and developing applications for nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC). Since 2008, Dr. Zou has been the Manager of Product Performance Program at FPInnovations, supervising a team of 30 research and technical staff and managing a research budget over $4.5 millions. Dr. Zou, an internationally recognized expert, has given more than 20 keynote speeches and invited presentations in technical conferences, universities and industry. He has published more than 60 technical papers; holds three patents and trademarks contributed to three books. In 1998, he received a certificate of recognition for excellence in scientific and technical research from American Institute of Conservation for his work on paper permanence. His work also led to the development of new Canadian Standard for permanent papers. He also received two awards for his research excellence from FPInnovations. Dr. Zou has also been very active in promoting the technical exchanges between China and Canada and his effort was recognized by two awards from the province of Hunan and City of Yueyang, as well as a certificate from the Chair of the Standing Committee of the Canadian parliament on heritage.
